What is the Chiropractic Adjustment?
The adjustment is a complex process while looking very simple. When a joint is not moving properly we call that a hypomobile joint meaning little or no motion in the joint. If you had a hyper mobile joint that would mean a joint is moving too much.
If you look up at the spinal bones above you can see the facet joints aka spinal joints which are what may be not moving properly. The arrows are pointing to the joints that we as chiropractors treat and address to get moving properly promoting health.
When a joint is not functioning properly some things happen right at the joint and in your body. The reduction in movement in the joint causes altered movement patterns and biomechanical stresses
which then result in cellular damage. The cellular damage causes intracellular fluid to be exposed to the extracellular spaces within your body. This event then causes immobilization degeneration if
not corrected properly by a chiropractor. The adjustment is a complex process while looking very simple.
The degeneration can affect your body in so many ways. It can affect the vascular aspect within your body, the connective tissues within your body and your nervous system-which goes to every
cell, tissue, and organ in your body to tell it what to do will be affected and so much more.
The picture on the right shows a chiropractic adjustment using a more gentle technique using the ArthroStim. I also adjust manually as well.
The adjustment has extraordinary variations, involving the use of specific force in a precise direction. The adjustment involves the doctor of chiropractic making
changes to the function of the joints and muscles by using their hands or a specifically designed instrument. By improving function the doctor of chiropractic can assist in the relief of pain and

In my practice I use a variety of techniques including hands on diversified adjusting, the use of the activator instrument, motion palpation, and the ArthroStim. The ArthroStim is a new
instrument (pictured above) that I have added to the office which is excellent for gentle adjustments that are both specific and effective. Please look to the picture to the right to see what this
great instrument looks like. Using this machine you can do chiropractic adjustments and use it for muscle work.
